Anyway, since Sampson is not a big fan of being kenneled and we have a couple of brief trips coming up, I decided to try a dog "minder" who cares for dogs in his home. Of course, being the nervous mother that I am, I decided we should take him there for a trial sleepover before our trip. So today at "Mark's" house, I'm telling him how much Sampson loves tennis balls and how nothing else exists if there's a tennis ball around. To which he asks, "Does he pinch other people's balls?" I almost fell on the floor laughing before I realized "pinch" means "steal" in 'Stralian!
Since our boy was being taken care of that day, we decided to head out and do some touristy things in our area. Melbourne is located on Port Phillip Bay. Picture a big upside down "C" and we are at the top of it. To get down to one end of the "C" is 1 1/2 hours drive and it's the same distance to the other end of the "C" with a ferry that runs across at the opening of the bay.
Our first stop was in Geelong where they are known for their whimsical statues at the shoreline.
And then we got crazy. And NO, they're not real. Not drunk enough! The Tiger is the mascot for the Richmond Tigers, Torsten's favorite Australian rules football team.
And of course we had to stop for dessert. I don't think my piece of carrot cake was big enough.
We took the 45 minute car ferry across. The weather shaped up at that point.
Stopped for a brew at a beer garden on the other side in Sorento called the Pig and Whistle.
Then we headed toward home, stopping along the way on the Mornington Peninsula to enjoy the scenery and then a stop at the Brighton Beach Boxes. Believe it or not, these silly little places with no electricity or water sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars each!

We finally made it to the Queen Victoria Summer night market. It's held every Wednesday night during the summer. Wow! It was crowded!

It was a beautiful walk with Sampson this morning. I feel so lucky to be here.
