A Month of Stuff around Melbourne

March 20, 2016

We went to the Australian Grand Prix, right across the street from us.  Great beer, great air show, and great company.  Oh, and the race was ok too.

So glad that 4 days worth of noise is over with!  Nothing like getting woken up at 7:20 a.m by the roaring sound of engines.  Of course, when I told Torsten it was noisy, he replied, "That's music!"

Later that day, the random alcohol/drug testing was in full force.  Glad we could walk home.

I went with a couple of friends downtown to "200 Years of Australian Fashion" at National Gallery Victoria.  Very nice, although I didn't see any Crocodile Dundee hats.

While I was walking Sampson this morning, I saw that the Rainbow Lorikeets were having a party at the fountain at our corner.  Here's a picture of what they look like and my video.  They are beautiful birds, but VERY noisy.

And here are our critters relaxing on Good Friday morning.

Although the city of Melbourne is very dog friendly, finding a park that allows dogs in the country is no easy task because all the state parks don't allow them.  We finally found a trail about 45 minutes from the house where we could take our boy to enjoy nature.  Although we didn't spot one kangaroo.

We went to an Aussie Rules Footy Game.  It never ceases to amaze me how HUGE the field is at Aussie Rules Football vs American NFL.  175 yards x 154 yds.  Constant action and no time outs.  I absolutely love it!  The guys in their cute little shorts aren't bad either.

April 7, 2016
Today I went with some friends to Country Dahlia farm which has Australia's largest collection of dahlias.  Over 2000 varieties.  They were stunning.  I took over 30 pictures, I just couldn't stop.  Here are just a few.

April 9, 2016
We went to see a Scottish comedian by the name of Danny Bhoy this evening.  This is during the month long Melbourne Comedy Festival in its 30th year.  He was hysterical.  Before the show we enjoyed dinner on the Yarra River with a beautiful view.
April 10, 2016
Today was a classic car show at Flemington Racecourse.  As you know, Torsten was in his element.  Me?  I looked at the flowers.

April 17, 2016
I know this may be hard to believe, but here are pictures to document it.  Torsten at a cooking class!  Yes indeed!  We took a class at the South Melbourne Market called Meat Free Meals.  We were in a class with 10 other people and we made Garlic Mushroom & Haloumi Bruschetta, Zucchini Feta Fritters and Silverbeet & Ricotta Cannelloni.  They all were fantastic!

That's it for now folks!  In 2 days we are headed for a long weekend at the Great Barrier Reef.  Can't wait.  Stay tuned......
